Osceola Science County Fair
Congratulations to the following students for placing First at the Osceola County Science Fair: Athena Hood-Botany; Arlene Dean-Earth and Space Science; Kayline Clark-Engineering; Austin Miller-Medicine and Health; Michael Priore-Microbiology; Conor Willis-Physics; and Ryan Crotty-Zoology.
Only four students can be sent from Osceola County to compete in the state science and three out of the four are from St. Thomas. Congratulations to Athena Hood, Austin Miller and Michael Priore for their qualification to compete at the state level month.
Rodeo Day
On February 18, St Thomas Aquinas celebrated Rodeo Day with a series of events to make students aware of the cultural background of Osceola County. The students enjoyed listening to the many rodeo queens from around the country, getting hands-on experience with ponies along with story time with the ponies for the lower grades. Also, thank you to the Osceola County Mounted Patrol for their demonstration on how horses are used in law enforcement. Other events included a hay ride, trail ride / scavenger hunt and a special western-style outdoor lunch. Thank you to Donna Quinn for organizing this wonderful event for the school.
Catholic Schools Week
The last week in January, Catholic Schools Week was celebrated at St.Thomas with a series of events listed below:
1/30 Mother/Son Bowling
2/1 Community Day, and the younger grades took field trips to various businesses in the St. Cloud area while grades 5th through 8th enjoyed hearing a variety of speakers for Career Day.
2/2 Family Day, Families were encouraged to come have lunch with their children that day and to recognize all the volunteers for their time at the school.
2/3 Faith Day, Grades 2 through 8th celebrated mass at the Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine in Orlando.
2/4 Student/Teacher Day, Students and staff had the opportunity to come to school in their pajamas. Also, day-long raffle prizes were given out to students and staff. At the end of the day, students enjoyed a movie in the gym. In the evening a free spaghetti dinner was provided for all the students and their families.
2/5 Grandparents Day, Grandparents were invited to celebrate mass with their grandchildren and to visit their classroom. At the end of the day approximately 200 slippers were donated to Plantation Bay Rehabilitation Center donated by the students.
2/6 Butterfly Ball, The annual Father/Daughter dance was held.
