The City of Kissimmee’s Lifeguard team from Bob Makinson Aquatic Center won the Florida Aquatics Council, Inc. Lifeguard Games on Sunday, August 19.
Ten team members went to compete in Tampa, Florida and won first place overall. This competition consisted of six events. The events included: lifeguard relay, shallow water spinal injury management, strength & stamina, glove relay, unconscious submerged victim with deep water extraction, and Switch-A-Roo relay. “We are proud of the hard work, dedication, and athletic performance of the Kissimmee’s Parks and Recreation Aquatics Team – this energetic group of highly skilled professionals proved it at the annual Lifeguard Games in Tampa. Lifeguarding is not an easy job – staff must be quick, focused, responsive and calm under intense conditions and pressures, while making it look like another fun day at the pool,” said Elizabeth Harris, the City’s Parks & Recreation director.
