With thousands of vehicles on the road, you need to make sure your tires are safe. To make sure my mini-van had good tires I visited with Edwin Estrella at Classic Tire & Service, Inc. He gave me some helpful tips.
Check your tires: A wet-weather trip requires more grip than normal. Check your tires to be sure you have enough tread to grip wet roads.
Be prepared for slick surfaces: If it hasn’t rained in a while, roads may be extra slick due to grease and oils that collect over time. This is particularly true during the first hours of rainfall before the residue washes away.
Avoid large pools of standing water: If you’re approaching a large puddle, drive around it. Use the curb as a gauge to tell how deep it is. Not sure? Drive around it. If water gets into your engine compartment, you risk damaging your internal electrical system. Not only can this be costly, but it could leave you stranded.
Regular tire rotations help eliminate premature tire wear and could save you hundreds of dollars Rotating your tires means moving them from one side of the vehicle to the other, moving them from front to back, or a combination of both.
Balancing your tires is a cost-effective way to promote safety, reduce tire wear and increase fuel efficiency.
