Osceola County, Florida – The Osceola County Job Fair, which is focused on helping Hurricane Maria evacuees, is scheduled for Friday (11-3) and will mark nearly a month of Osceola County’s efforts to provide information and services to those arriving in our community as a result of this life-altering storm.

Since it opened on October 6, the Center has served more than 1,300 families – with more than 1,000 more utilizing Osceola staff at a similar center at Orlando International Airport. The County’s Hurricane Maria Reception Center, now located at 320 N. Beaumont Ave. in Kissimmee, is staffed by representatives from about dozen organizations who are able to offer resources from healthcare to education to job placement to help signing up for insurance and food stamps.

On Monday, the CareerSource mobile unit added to efforts at the HMRC. The unit brings about a dozen computers and resources to assist individuals with job searches, preparation and online applications.

Friday’s Osceola County Job Fair is a natural extension of the County’s efforts to provide resources to evacuees from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

More than 50 employers have signed up for the Job Fair, which will be held at the Exhibition Hall at Osceola Heritage Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on November 3. Members of Osceola County’s Human Resources Department will offer two free workshops to help with résumé writing and interviewing skills. Employers range from companies in the hospitality industry to education to health care to construction. Anyone seeking employment is welcome to attend the event.

“Our goal is to provide support and independence to new arrivals. Whether they are here for the short-term or permanently, it is essential to assist them to become part of our community,” said Commissioner Viviana Janer. “I’m proud of the way County staff and our partners are filling this void and providing indispensible aid to people whose lives have been forever altered by Hurricane Maria. The response shows how deeply connected our community is to the evacuees. It is an honor to be able to offer badly needed resources to them so that they can try to rebuild their lives as quickly and completely as possible.”
The HMRC continues to operate from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Any employers interested in participating in the job fair should call the Osceola County Human Services Department at 407-742-8423. More information is available at maria.osceola.org or at 407-742-8598.
