USMC WWI uniform now on display at the St. Cloud Heritage Museum. The Heritage Museum is a small location, but full of big surprises. Stop in and enjoy the many items on display, many donated by St. Cloud residents.
The March Uniform of the Month is a World War One Marine Summer Wet Tunic with the hat.
When the United States Marine Corps arrived in France in 1917 the Marines were wearing the new forest green uniform. By the end of WWI most Marines in France were wearing the Army’s olive drab uniform.
The P1912 tunic had just two patch pockets on the chest; with the later uniform issue, the P1917 adding two more pockets at the waist level. Inside the tunic may be markings with the contract date and size.
The Heritage Museum is located at 1012 Massachusetts Ave., St Cloud. It is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 am-2 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4 pm. Open other times by appointment. Admission is free, but donations are always welcome.
