Pvt. Lucius L. Mitchell Camp 4 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is pleased to recognize Dave and Gail Barriault for consistently flying the American Flag at their St. Cloud residence.
David, known as “Speedy”, is former Chaplain of Post 3227 VFW and a member of American Legion Post 80, Am-Vets Post 33 and Marine Corps League Post 1092.
His dear wife, Gail, emulates his patriotism and likewise belongs to all the auxiliary groups associated with his. They keep themselves busy with volunteering at the hospital, food pantry and church activities serving the needs of others.
David was born in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass. and raised in New York City. He began his service career with the U.S. Army in the Signal Corps from 1959-1965. From 1965-1975, Speedy was in an infantry battalion with the U.S. Marine Corps. Gail was born in Grove City, Ohio.
David noted that St. Cloud has always been a community of veterans starting with the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Union Civil War Veterans in 1909. It pleases Speedy and Gail to be part of the “Soldier City” and the many veterans who live here.
“I am proud to be an American and proud to have served my country”, said Speedy. “We are pleased to show others how to respect the flag which is a symbol of FREEDOM not just in America but around the world. Each of the veteran groups we belong to warmly welcomes new members to share in our purpose and endeavors. May God bless America.”
For this act of patriotism, PDC Ron McCracken proudly presented David and Gail Barriault with a certificate for being a St. Cloud Flag Flyer. The SUVCW encourages other residents to do likewise. They also invite male descendants of Union CW Veterans to consider joining their camp or inquire about research, call PDC Ron McCracken at 321-442-1856.
Thank you, David and Gail, for flying Old Glory.
