On December 25, 2018, deputies with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to 103 Montclair Way, Kissimmee, Florida in reference to reports of a shooting. The reporting person/witness advised that her boyfriend (Robert Gray) had been shot by an unidentified male. Upon deputies’ arrival, the suspect (Jonathan Velasquez) was still present and was secured for questioning. Robert Gray was transported to Poinciana Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Velasquez was transported to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and he cooperated with the investigation.
During his interview, Mr. Velasquez said he heard arguing coming from the neighbor’s house. Fearing the argument would escalate he went upstairs and got his gun. Upon returning to the backyard, he saw the female slap the male then go into the house. At this point, he went over to the neighbor’s house and made contact with Mr. Gray. Velazquez said once Mr. Gray got within ten feet of him, he fired in Mr. Gray’s direction, causing him to fall to the ground immediately.
