When Tim stepped foot into the Darryl Strawberry Recovery Center, he was skeptical. Although his parents were very faith based people, he had lost his faith, and turned to drugs and alcohol to numb his feelings of depression and anxiety. Tim’s drug use finally led to an all-time low when he woke up behind a dumpster after an all-nighter. Confronted by friends and family he realized something needed to change. Tim entered the Christian program from Pennsylvania and in Tim’s words he left the Center in St. Cloud “a new man”.
The Strawberry Center’s new Christian-based curriculum, Clean, Sober and Saved, helped Tim find another way to heal his pain, get sober and live a better life.
Tim isn’t some addict on the street. Tim is your next-door neighbor, your son, your friend, a loved one. The opioid epidemic’s shadow spreads far and wide, and it doesn’t discriminate. In fact, each day 115 people in the United States die from an opioid overdose. It is estimated that over 80,000 individual deaths will have occurred in 2017 as a result of addiction a 25-30% increase over 2016.
The American society of Addiction Medicine defines addiction this way…Addiction is a primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry. Dysfunction in these circuits leads to characteristic biological, psychological, social and spiritual manifestations. This is reflected in an individual pathologically pursuing reward and/or relief by substance use and other behaviors.
Clean, Sober and Saved is the new Christian-based curriculum offered with Life Recovery studies and daily devotionals exclusively at the Strawberry Center, designed by Pastor Tracy Strawberry, wife of former MLB-All-star Darryl Strawberry. Tracy has the better part of two decades of clean sober and saved time under her belt, and found her lasting success through a faith-based program. The Christian villa at DSRC is a working program within the confines of our traditional program. “It amazes me still how many come for our traditional program and then transfer or participate in the Christian curriculum as they begin to see God at work in those around them” according to Wayne Stewart, National Director of Business Development.
“I’m turning my treatment center into a Christian, Christ-centered treatment center because I know it works,” Darryl Strawberry said in a recent interview with CBN.
The new curriculum is based on the principle that a relationship with God is essential for one’s recovery success. In addition to the Clean, Sober and Saved curriculum, these clients are given a daily devotional, have the ability to attend non-denominational church services and participate in group sessions and a 12-step program.
Make no mistake about the fact that our curriculum meets men and women where they are in their walk with God. A relationship with God brings about psychological and emotional change, and also builds in a support group through church for clients when they leave recovery. At Strawberry Recovery Centers we focus on providing superior behavioral care coupled with the best medical care as well as a new or renewed relationship with God. Addressing the spiritual manifestations of addiction is just as important as addressing the behavioral and physical sides, which are all necessary for a lasting recovery. The Clean, Sober and Saved curriculum provides the spiritual component that builds on the foundation for long-term success.
“We’ve already had several clients successfully complete the new program,” said Pastor Tony Ayala, of Darryl Strawberry Recovery Center. “I believe in a Christian Recovery program because, if you want to be free of addiction God can set you free indeed. He will place all the right counselors, doctors, pastor(s), and accountability partners in your way to accomplish His work in you”.
The opioid epidemic has taken too many lives, but there is hope. A complete Christ-centered curriculum within the framework of our overall program of recovery will help build for lasting recovery. Darryl Strawberry Recovery Center is thrilled to announce the new Christian program. The facility accepts all major insurances, and also offers a unique VA program for veterans.
