Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Pvt. Lucius L. Mitchell Camp 4, of St. Cloud, Florida is pleased to recognize Philip Matthew Miller for consistently flying the Flag of the United States at his St. Cloud residence.
Philip was born in Huntington, West Virginia. He was raised on a farm in Eastern Kentucky outside the town of Catlettsburg. Apart from helping with farm chores, Philip played youth league sports. He also enjoyed spending time in the outdoors. He is an avid outdoorsman with a passion for conservation through hunting and fishing
In 2017, after graduating from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, Philip moved to Florida and found work in the construction industry where he holds a position with a commercial general contractor doing major projects around Central Florida.
Patriotism is something Philip has shown throughout his life. From a young age, he was involved in the festivities associated with Independence Day. In his teenage years he played in a community band that performed many patriotic themed concerts throughout the year. One concert that he particularly enjoyed performing was for local veterans as they returned to the airport from a trip to Washington, D.C. on the Honor Flight to visit the memorials for the battles in which they served.
For this act of patriotism, Ron McCracken of The Sons of Union Veterans proudly presented Philip Matthew Miller with a certificate for being a St. Cloud Flag Flyer. The SUVCW encourages others to do likewise. They also invite descendants of Union Veterans of the Civil War to consider joining their camp or to inquire about research, please contact Past Department Commander, Ron McCracken at 321-442-1856.
Thank you, Philip for flying Old Glory.
