The 2019 Great American Realtors Days (GARD) was one for the books! A delegation from the Osceola County Association of REALTORS® (OSCAR) alongside REALTORS® from all over Florida recently made a trip to Tallahassee where they spent three days advocating for our community during meetings with legislators. Gov. Ron DeSantis made a surprise guest appearance during the legislative briefing luncheon event, causing an outbreak of applause and camera flashes. He spoke on a variety of topics important to Realtors, such as the environment and affordable housing.

The trip included meetings with local officials who represent Osceola County including Senator Victor M. Torres Jr., District 43 Representative John Cortes, District 39 Representative Josie Tomkow, and District 42 Representative Mike La Rosa, who is also a Realtor® member of the Association. During these meetings the OSCAR delegation urged our legislators to support bills that protect private property rights, provide remedies for open and expired building permits, authorize remote notaries in Florida, curb Assignment of Benefits fraud and abuse, and lower the business rent tax. Those were among the top priorities Florida REALTORS® are advocating for this legislative session. “Attending events such as this is important not only for REALTORS®, but for homeowners as well. We provide a united voice for issues that really matter,” stated President Danny Hernandez.
