For the 9th consecutive year, the millage rate for Osceola County residents remains unchanged, as Osceola County Commissioners approved a $1.17 billion FY 2019 budget last week.

“This year’s budget process included some unique challenges but County staff and our Constitutional Officers were able to work together on a spending plan that addresses Osceola County’s needs,” said Commission Chairman Fred Hawkins, Jr. “We always exercise fiscal care, and that has helped us maintain positive outlooks from those organizations that track our financial management. I’m confident that in the next 12 months Osceola County will continue to provide a sustainable level of service to residents.”

Highlights of this year’s spending plan include:

  • $9 million for road resurfacing
  • Approximately $2.9 million for environmental and engineering processes (PD& E study) to determine impacts associated with improvements to Neptune and Simpson roads
  • Approximately $3.3 million in Tourist Development Tax funds for improvements to Osceola Heritage Park
  • Continuing significant support for affordable rental housing and transitioning the homeless to permanent housing
  • Increased funding for Public Safety, including the Sheriff’s Office
