As the Osceola School District continues to build a college-going culture for students, all schools will celebrate College Week from August 27 – August 31, 2018. This show of support for higher education is intended to spread the college knowledge to students in prekindergarten through twelfth grade, and will highlight the importance of being college-ready. Numerous awareness activities are planned as part of College Week 2018:
Monday, August 27 – “Matchin’ Monday” (Match with someone else) – Students and parents are invited to learn about post-secondary options, such as the military, technical/vocational schooling, conservatories, two-year or four-year universities, and more in order to find the right match.
Tuesday, August 28 – “Interview Tuesday” (Test your interview skills to learn more about careers) – Students will have the opportunity to interview teachers who will share about their career and the journey they took to get there. Students are invited to wear their best business attire on this day.
Wednesday, August 29 – “Bright Future Wednesday” (Wear neon colors to promote Florida Bright Futures and other financial aid options) – Students and parents are invited to learn all about financial aid to help pay for post-secondary education, including grants, loans, Bright Futures, scholarships, and more.
Thursday, August 30 – “Back To The Future Thursday” – (Dress for your future career) – Students and parents are invited to learn about what is needed to get students to where they are going, such as certifications, licensures, a college degree, or something else.
Friday, August 31 – “National College Colors Day” – The district invites all students, employees, parents, and community members to proudly wear their college colors on this day.
Also as part of College Week, students and parents across the district are invited to attend a “Surviving College Admissions” workshop hosted by Johns Hopkins University on August 29 at Gateway High, with check-in at 6:00 p.m. and a 6:30 p.m. program start.
Individuals participating in College Week activities are encouraged to post a photo on social media tagging @osceolaschools and using #SDOCGoodtoGreat and #CollegeWeek18. Parents and students can also follow Anthony Cook, Coordinator of College and Career Counseling, on the district’s Instagram account to gain information about the topics of the day and participate in contests to win prizes.
