Osceola To Purchase $2.7 million in New Fire Equipment

Released By Osceola County Community Outreach/Public Information Office

Osceola County Commissioners approved the purchase of approximately $2.7 million of equipment for Fire/Rescue, affirming its emphasis on public safety for residents, visitors and businesses earlier this month.

“Once again, we are demonstrating our commitment to the community’s safety by making the acquisition of these lifesaving resources a top priority,” said Commission Chairman Fred Hawkins, Jr. “The proof of the value this board places on public safety is demonstrated by this board’s action and our history of making numerous improvements in this area over the last five years.”

Included in the approvals:

  • Two new, custom-built Pierce Velocity Squad Pumpers for an amount not to exceed $1.68 million.
  • Two new, custom-built 2018 Braun Super Chief Ambulances for an amount not to exceed $753,872.
  • A new, custom-built Pierce Kenworth Tanker for an amount not to exceed $279,012.

The purchases are part of Fire/Rescue’s ongoing initiative to replace and/or upgrade aging vehicles in the County’s rescue vehicle fleet.

In fact, in recent years Osceola County has made more than $20 million in investments in public safety: new fire stations, new equipment, and a new training center that will make our community – and our firefighters – safer.

The County’s investments include Stations 62, 64 and 73, new engines throughout the County – at stations 65, 42, 43, 51, 54, 62 and 72, as well as an air/light unit for Osceola’s hazmat team at Station 62. A new Tower Ladder truck was purchased to replace a unit that will become a reserve unit. Public Safety also purchased five new rescues as well as acquiring a water truck that improved the County’s ISO rating to more people and potentially lowered their insurance rates.

New bunker gear, new life pack monitors, new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and jaws of life also were purchased.
