Eight rosters full of young men hoping to have a long career in the NBA competed for the past week as the Orlando Magic hosted their annual NBA summer league.
This week-long league provides a huge opportunity for young players looking to showcase their talents in hopes of landing a permanent spot on an NBA roster.
The eight teams who participated this year included the Magic, Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Charlotte Hornets, Miami Heat and New York Knicks.
The Mavericks came out victorious over the Pistons in Thursday’s championship game. They utilized ferocious, full-court defense to propel them to the league title.
The Knicks and Heat had a miserable week, combining to go 1-9 throughout the week of games.
There were a few players in particular who stood out all week long. Among these stand outs was Kentucky alum Bam Adebayo who was Miami’s first round pick this year. Adebayo, who is often compared to ex-Magic superstar Dwight Howard, was fifth in the Orlando Summer League in scoring, tied for second in rebounding and second in blocked shots.
The Mavericks will look to go back to back when they travel to the sin city for the annual Las Vegas summer league.
