Riley Named Florida State League Player of the Week for May 1-7


Atlanta’s 11th-ranked prospect slugged three home runs and drove in 10 through the first week of May

The Florida State League announced on Monday that Florida Fire Frogs third baseman Austin Riley was named the Player of the Week for from May 1-7. The Atlanta Braves’ 11th-ranked prospect hit .462 (12-for-26) with three home runs and 10 driven in for the first week of May, and included a double and five runs scored.
The native of Memphis, Tenn. was responsible for the only three runs in a 3-0 victory over the Palm Beach Cardinals on May 4, and drove in the first three of the first four runs in a 17-11 win over the Clearwater Threshers on May 5, before slugging a solo shot and driving in the game-winning run on a walk-off single in the rubber match against Clearwater on May 7.
The 20-year-old leads Florida with 34 hits and 24 RBI, and ranks tied for third in the league with seven long balls.
Riley has hit safely in four consecutive games, going 9-for-17 during that stretch.
Florida takes to the road to take on the Daytona Tortugas for a three-game series at Jackie Robinson Ballpark starting Monday night. LHP Tyler Pike (2-1, 2.16) takes the mound for the Fire Frogs, but it has yet to be determined who will start for the Tortugas. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., with coverage starting at 6:50 p.m. on the Florida Fire Frogs Broadcasting Network.
The Florida Fire Frogs return to Osceola County Stadium on Monday, May 15 to take on the Tampa Yankees. The first game of the four-game series is Margarita Monday in Kissimmee, where fans can enjoy $3 margaritas and $2 empanadas. The series opener will also be Service Industry Night, where members of the service industry can purchase tickets at the gate for a discounted rate.
