Graduating high school- seniors, recipients of scholarships sponsored by The Langley Family Foundation, and representatives of local organizations, appear holding giant symbolic$1,000 checks, during the scholarships presentation at Kissimmee Bay Country Club, Kissimmee, on May 4, 2017.
Edward Smallwood, President of The Langley Family Foundation, presided in the presentation of twenty-four scholarships of $1,000 each to deserving graduating seniors from local high schools. The founders, Mr. and Mrs. Burton Langley, were absent due to medical issues. To date, more than $125,000 has been awarded by the Foundation to matching funds provided by local organizations participating in the program. Smallwood said, “The Langley Family wants to give back some of the resources to the community which it allowed the family to accumulate”
The Knights of Columbus, Council 6624 St. Cloud-Kissimmee, was one of the organizations which selected worthy scholarship recipients in partnership with the Foundation. The following recipients were chosen: Giovani Xavier Burgos, and Anthony Gonzales Capobianco, from Gateway High School; Sarah Jennifer Hardin, Harmony High School; Jacqueline Cruz and Emma Wolff, Osceola High School; Hailey Paige Lestage, St. Cloud High School; and Isabella Vargas, Heritage Christian High School.
The scholarship recipients were judged according to academic accomplishments, services rendered to the community, family needs, and the potential to achieve at college or vocational school.
