Pvt. Lucius L. Mitchell Camp 4, St. Cloud, of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is pleased to recognize John and Barbara Fry for consistently flying the American Flag at their St. Cloud, Florida residence.
John was born in Shelbyville, TN. He has suffered throughout his life with asthma. As a child, the doctors advised his parents to move to Arizona or Florida for the sake of John’s health, so they moved to Brevard County, Florida. His mother taught school there for twenty years.
In John’s adult years he operated an auto repair shop called the “Five Points Tune Up” in Cocoa. Later, he worked at the Kennedy Space Center for thirty years as an Engineering Illustrator, Mechanical Technician. His son, John, worked at the Space Center as well, for 18 years. Another son, James, is an electrician and the third son, Joe, served in the U.S. Army for 24 years.
Barbara, who was born and raised in Plant City, Florida, has a special fondness for their home and has it adorned inside and out with numerous flags, eagles, and other patriotic items. Both John and Barbara belong to church programs that help the needy and homeless. They are a remarkable couple who have a lot of pride for our nation and its freedom.
For this act of patriotism, the SUVCW proudly presented John and Barbara Fry with a certificate for being a St. Cloud Flag Flyer. The SUVCW encourages other residents to do likewise.
