Bookmark Buddies, Mentoring Program

The Bookmark Buddies Mentoring Program is an exciting opportunity

for you to become involved with the Education Foundation - Osceola and

make a difference in the life of a child.  Our third graders in St. Cloud

need your help to practice and improve their reading skills

before the important FCAT testing in the spring.

Mentors meet each week for thirty minutes with a third grade student

who needs that little push to become a successful reader and lifelong

learner.  No prior tutoring experience is necessary, and all training and

materials are provided, making for an easy and fun volunteer experience!

Cancer Survivors Support Group begins

Local cancer survivors fromCentral Floridahave come together

to start local support groups for those who have dealt with or are

presently dealing with cancer. These two local ladies are inviting

those who are cancer survivors, patients and caregivers to become

a part of the support group. The support group will be based throughout

Central Floridato reach out to as many in need as they can.

Our hope is to bring a group together to share experiences as well as

knowledge gained through our advocacy as to resources available to those needing assistance and answers,” founders of the support group,

Joan Tashbar and Rosa Holloway stated.

There are many benefits of participating in support groups:

feeling less lonely, gaining a sense of empowerment and control,

improving coping skills, opportunities to talk openly and honestly

about feelings, reduction in distress, depression or anxiety,

receiving practical advice or information on treatment options,

and learning about new medical research.
