AUTO SIGNELS, FLORIDA BOOM AND BUSINESS BUILDING

 

Well! Let’s start this article with a brief educational theme, particularly for our younger drivers , as we can see in the August 27, 1925 issue of the St. Cloud Tribune.  With the advent of the automobile in 1908 there was suddenly a need to pass on information to other auto drivers, and at that time, no one had invented the electric turn indicators, and of course, auto air conditioning had not been developed so that windows were usually not closed or the car was a "rag top".  The driver therefore had to give some type of signal to the other autos that he was turning right or left. SCHOOL, ASHTON COURT TOURIST CAMP GROUND, LIGHTS AND BAPTIST CHURCH

           

            When one thinks about St. Cloud being the old soldier city it is surprising when one discusses the need for schools for children as we can read in the August 27, 1925 issue of the St. Cloud Tribune:

"ADDITIONAL BUILDINGS NEEDED WITHIN NEXT YEAR TO MEET GROWTH.

Church Fire, Paving, Store Closing, Fellsmere, Bonding and Mail Delivery

 

This column has already told about the fire in the roof of the Presbyterian Church on September 24, 1924 and that they met temporarily in the St. Cloud Community House on 8th Street.  Well, they were able to move back into the fire-damaged building and the November 11, 1924 issue of the St. Cloud Tribune had an architect’s rendering of the remodeling.  In the April 23, 1925 Tribune we find:  “PLANS READY FOR NEW PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH”
