The football season may be over, but there are still plenty of sports to be played and enjoyed this spring season. Practicing every day are teams including Tennis, Track, Weightlifting, Boy’s Baseball and Girl’s Softball - all are preparing to “go for the gold.”
Track and Field Coach Harkema describes his team as competitive. A full 70 runners, male and female, will give this team the aggressive edge. The track and field training is geared to improve performance in long distance runs, short sprints, high and long jumps, shot-put and discus. All runners will be competing this year with his Varsity and Junior Varsity players leading the way.
Softball Coach Gale has been conditioning his Varsity and Junior Varsity girls since early autumn. With 30 excellent players Coach Gale confidently stated, “I have nothing to say because the season will speak for itself.”
New SCHS teacher, James Moran, is coaching baseball and he gave me the insight of a hopeful new addition to the school’s athletic programs. During an icy family Thanksgiving Football game in New Jersey, Moran slipped his quadriceps above his knee and stayed in the hospital until mid-January. Although he barely walks around the field in his leg brace, Moran still remains confident and invites all male athletes with a minimum 2.0 GPA to join the baseball team.
